Price gives birth to baby girl

Becky Price, for whose early release from prison Defend Lifers demonstrated January 12, gave birth to a healthy baby girl January 19.

Hannah Elizabeth, weighing 6 lbs., 7 oz., was born in Laurel Hospital.  Becky reported that her labor lasted just three hours, she did not need medication during delivery, and there were no complications.

Becky was returned to the Maryland Correctional Institution for Women in Jessup 36 hours after the baby’s birth.  The baby is in the care of Becky’s fiancé, Jason Moats, who is the baby’s father, and Becky’s mother, Jean Calimer.

Judge Donald Beachy, who sentenced Becky to five years in prison, has approved a sentence modification hearing, which was scheduled for February 18 in Washington County Circuit Court in  Hagerstown.

Price was convicted of theft by deception in connection with her management six years ago of a financially troubled travel agency in Hagerstown.

She admitted to using money that was supposed to cover the cost of some clients’ cruise tickets to pay office expenses, like rent and overdue bills for the absentee owner of the travel agency.

The prosecution acknowledged that she never spent any of the money on herself.

The pre-sentencing report ordered by Judge Beachy had recommended that Price serve six months in prison, while the prosecution was seeking two years.

Judge Beachy, however, sentenced her to 16 years, with 11 years suspended.
