Back to the October 2002 Newsletter Index Catholic readers deprived of truthBy Don Kraus Taneytown, Md.The Catholic Review should be explaining to its readers why some political figures get on the front pages and some are. buried inside. Also, why do we never hear about their views on abortion and religious freedom! In June we saw on the front page Cardinal William Keeler and Mayor O'Malley sharing the spotlight on a neighborhood project. Surely Catholics should see this as a sign of unity. We never read about the mayor's comments that he will follow party lines on abortion. Also in June, The Catholic Review printed an article on the mayor of Frederick, Jennifer Dougherty. A profile of her said that she was a graduate of Mt. St. Mary's College, a parishioner at St. John's in Frederick, etc. Certainly, Catholics would want to support her. What they failed to tell the readers is that she too follows party lines on abortion. She is fighting tooth and nail to remove the Ten Commandments from Veterans Memorial Park. She also fought to remove prayer that opens the City Council meetings. Why are Catholic readers deprived of the truth? Does The Catholic Review follow party lines also? Have we found a way to kill babies, vote for abortion and still take communion on Sunday? Scripture tells us about the harsh judgment God will have on those who would harm "His little ones." Look deep in the August 15 issue to find an article on President Bush signing the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act. It received one sentence to describe it. Wrong party lines, I suppose. |
