Simply being a Republican in overwhelmingly Democratic Dundalk takes a certain amount of courage.
Jane Brooks, who is running for the Republican nomination for House of Delegates in the 7th District, has courage to spare: she is also staunchly pro-life. 'I was told that to be elected in this district you have to be pro-choice, but you have to be what you are,' she explains.
Mrs. Brooks favors every possible legal restriction on abortion and is opposed to any laws permitting euthanasia or assisted suicide.
The Dundalk mother of two has long been involved in community affairs. Currently, she is vice-president of the 7th District Republican Club and an elected official of the Republican Central Committee of Baltimore County.
She was assistant district representative for Congressman Robert Erlich, Jr., for two years, and was active in the 'Say No to MTO' campaign with the Way Association and the Eastern Political Association to help protect the rights of property owners in the Dundalk area.
Housing programs such as judicially mandated MTO (Move to Opportunity) 'bring crime, drugs and the deterioration of schools to our community,' she asserts. 'They also breed fear and class warfare, and discourage the work ethic.'
Mrs. Brooks has been active in her church, and has assisted her husband Tom in the Recreation Council as a baseball coach.
