Back to the February 2004 Newsletter Index Pro-lifers target Northern Parkway abortion millPro-lifers from St. Joseph's Church in Cockeysville staged a picket and Rosary vigil at a little-known abortion mill on Northern Parkway December 12. About 20 pro-lifers prayed the Rosary and carried signs in front of Seneca Women's Health Care abortion mill, which is on the first floor of a professional building at 1900 East Northern Parkway, just 1½ blocks east of Mercy High School. Seneca charges $500 for surgical abortions, but offers a $50 discount for students. "I don't think most people realize it's there; it's kind of tucked away," said St. Joseph' Pro-Life Committee Chairperson Cookie Harris, who organized the event. She said she accidentally learned of Seneca's existence on the internet. The pro-lifers attended 8:30 a.m. Mass at St. Joseph's, then carpooled to the abortion mill site, where they were met by additional pro-lifers. They lined Northern Parkway, carrying signs reading "Abortion Kills Babies" and ones showing Jesus holding an aborted baby in His hand and weeping. Cookie said that they received no negative reactions from passersby, and that one driver honked his horn and told them to "Keep doing what you're doing!" Mrs. Harris offered pro-life brochures to people entering and leaving the professional building. One young woman to whom she gave a brochure told her that she had a friend who was pregnant and considering abortion. This was the St. Joseph pro-life group's second picket. In November they picketed the American Women's Services abortion mill on North Calvert Street, near Johns Hopkins University. The group had scheduled a second demonstration at Seneca for February 11. |
